Two Graves

Forty year old Preston Peterson, pudgy, myopic and socially inept, knows the terror of being bullied. From his earliest childhood memory, he has faced ridicule, name calling, harassment and beatings. Fear ruled his life, possessed him, controlled his every encounter with others.

Now, he has killed.

Now, rage rules his life.

Digging out his despised High School year book, Preston uses computer aged photographs to find and kill look-alikes of his persecutors.

The time has come for those who bullied him to pay the ultimate price for their torture.

Preston is getting even and everyone is a target.

But with a panicked city and Lieutenant Gregg Mann’s task force looking for him, Preston should have remembered the Chinese proverb, “Before you embark on a journey of revenge, dig TWO GRAVES.”

The Schliemann Legacy

1873 — Heinrich Schliemann discovered ancient treasure in Turkey which proved the existence of Troy.

1943 — the treasure disappeared from Nazi Germany.

1981 — Henri Mardinaud, international information broker, discovers the treasure in the possession of Friedrich Heiden, ex-commander of Majdanek, a Nazi extermination camp. Using his network, the master gamesman positions his players in a race for the treasure and the Nazi:

David Morritt, recently retired Mossad agent and survivor of Majdanek.

Katrina Kontoravdis, a disgraced Greek intelligence operative hoping to redeem herself.

Duman, a vicious Turkish terrorist who will do anything to achieve his objectives.

From Europe, to Heiden’s fortress in Colombia, to a secluded estate in Jamaica, Mardinaud uses the hatred between Greece and Turkey and the horror of the holocaust to fuel his twisted game.

More than the treasure, survival becomes the ultimate prize in this battle of haunting memories, revenge, and love.

D.A.’s Cause:

Terry Fox Foundation — http://www.terryfox.org

In 1984, my mother was diagnosed with Cancer. Thanks to the research that has been done and her own strength of will, she beat it and has been Cancer free since. Part of her therapy was more exercise and so she and my father started walking every morning at 6:15, before the neighborhood got busy. Provided our Canadian weather isn’t too bad, now at age 87 & 82, they still walk about 3 miles every morning. They did their first Terry Fox Run in 1985. I joined them for their second walk and we have been doing it annually as a family (including my wife and children) ever since. This past September 2011, I was proud to be participating in my 25th Terry Fox Run.

Who was Terry Fox?

Terry Fox was an 18 year old first year Kinesiology student at Simon Fraser University(SFU) and a member of the SFU junior varsity basketball team in 1977 when he was diagnosed with bone cancer that resulted in the amputation of his right leg six inches above the knee. After undergoing chemotherapy and seeing other people, particularly children, suffering with cancer, Terry decided that he wanted to make a difference in the world, he wanted to do something to help cure this dreadful disease.

Terry began his Marathon of Hope on April 12, 1980 in St. John’s Newfoundland. When he was forced by a recurrence of cancer to stop his cross-Canada run at Thunder Bay, Ontario, on September 1, 1980, he had completed a total of 5,373 km over 143 days, the equivalent of a marathon every day. After a courageous battle with cancer he passed away in June 1981.

Few people are aware of the physical enormity of what Terry did in his Marathon of Hope run across Canada. He ran 26 miles per day, 7 days per week. Imagine how sore your legs would be if you walked 26 miles day after day on pavement. Imagine how much sorer your legs would be if you ran 26 miles day after day. Few people could stand up to such punishment. Then try to imagine how incredibly difficult and painful it would be to run 26 miles per day with an artificial limb. It is almost beyond comprehension.

It was a journey that Canadians will never forget. His courage, determination, humanitarianism, and selflessness have been an inspiration to millions of people.

Terry Fox Foundation

Terry’s Foundation supports Cancer research with 85% of the money raised going directly to research. The annual Terry Fox Run happens in September of each year with participation across Canada with many schools participating in their own runs.

I am happy to support this worthwhile cause.
